Give Me a Place 2011

Give Me a Place to Stand, and I Will Move the World

In 2011, I participated in an artist residency at the Hyde Park Art Center, with sculptor Jerimiah Hulsebos-Spofford, and several of my peers. We conceived of, constructed, and sailed sculptural rafts as a communal art project on Lake Michigan. “Give Me a Place to Stand, and I Will Move the Earth”, focused on the adversity faced by immigrants within the Chicago area, and featured rafts designed from disposed materials. These rafts were used in a “staged immigrant landing“, a performance conducted off the coast of the Indiana Dunes. The project was featured in several area newspapers, and the October edition of Sculpture Magazine.
